January 06: Hanoi Trivia pub quiz

Hanoi's weekly pub quiz is still going strong after three years of fun and games and the rules are still the same. It's 20,000 VND to enter and the winning team takes the pot. You can also win free beer and enjoy R&R's excellent food.

January 13-15: La Vita E La Morte

Local dramatics group, Saigon Players, is teaming up with Boomerang Bistro Saigon to present a three-day festival of visual and performing arts. Dubbed La Vita e La Morte (Life and Death), the charity event will showcase professional, non-professional and student artists, including painters, sculptors and photographers contributing art pieces that depict and reflect the theme of life and death.

January 19: London Nights
Where: Dragonfly, Hanoi

Dragonfly's London Nights offers patrons buy one get one free gin and tonics and plays the best sounds from the Uk including Brit Pop, Rock and Drum & Bass.

January 23: Tet Festival
Where: all over Vietnam
When: all day
Tet is the most important festival in Vietnam which marks the start of the new lunar year. Gifts are given to the very old or young along with ritual house cleaning, ancestral worship and preparing special food. Many people return to their family homes and transport can be chaotic.

January 23: Live Jazz Night

January 27: Gaelic Football Training Session
