Phu Quoc hotels and guesthouses guide

Phu Quoc resorts boast pools with ocean views
Choosing where to stay on Phu Quoc should be pretty simple – you just need to make a couple of decisions. Do you want somewhere with a bit of action in the evening and a choice of restaurants to eat from, or would you prefer to get away from it all and sleep and eat in one remote place?
If you choose the former, then Long Beach is for you, and if you choose the latter, Ong Lang Beach is your spot. Once you’ve made up your mind which beach to stay on, it’s all down to your budget. There are some fancy places on both beaches for people with big bucks, and fortunately some reasonable budget choices as well.
Long Beach hotels on Phu Quoc
Beach Club: This simple but well-kept resort is one of the best deals on Long Beach, with tidy rooms and bungalows set around a welcoming restaurant/bar. US$15-25. tel: +84 (0)77 398 0998.
Kim Nam Phuong: Over recent years, most budget hotels on Phu Quoc have gone upmarket, but this remains a reliable stand-by for anyone on a tight budget. Some rooms have air-con and hot water while others have fans and cold-water showers. US$10-20. tel: +84 (0)77 384 8395.
La Veranda Resort Phu Quoc: Run by hotel giant Accor, this stylish resort has just 44 well-appointed rooms in a colonial ambience, with a small pool and spa, plus a smart restaurant serving the island’s best food. Needless to say, the service is impeccable too. Rooms from US$150. tel: +84 (0)77 398 2988...More details and booking
Mai House: Enjoying one of the best beachfront locations, bungalows here are beautifully constructed and well-spaced to give a sense of privacy. They are set among a lovely tropical garden with towering palms, and the furnishings are extremely tasteful. US$55-75. tel: +84 (0)77 384 7003.
Sea Star Resort: This mid-range option has a lot going for it – spacious rooms not too close together, a tasty slice of beach in front and a management that will bend over backwards to please their guests. US$35-55. tel: +84 (0)77 398 2161...More details and booking
Perhaps more important than where to stay is when to go, as in high season (December-January) prices of Phu Quoc resorts double or even treble in some places, and the beach of course gets more crowded. Conversely, visitors arriving in the low season (May-October) will find hotel managers slashing their rates to draw in custom. Some of the smaller resorts close up for these months, so check websites for specifics.
